Swedish Saunas – Build a Dry Heat Sweat Room from a
Kit
Swedish saunas work on the same principle as the
better known Finnish saunas. A Swede might even admit that the sauna was
invented in Finland. In any case, whether you use a Swedish or a Finnish dry
heat sauna, the benefits are the same.
You may wonder what the difference is between a dry and a wet sauna. The
extreme heat in a Swedish or Finnish sauna is always dry to start with.
Adding water will increase the humidity level, making the hot air wetter and
easier to breathe. A steam bath, on the other hand, uses a steam generator
to produce humidity levels of up to 100%.
The Swedes and Finns use wood-burning or electric heaters to heat up their
saunas. After a while the heat becomes unbearable for even the hardiest
sauna enthusiast, so bathers douse the rocks on top of the
sauna room heater to add moisture and
increase the humidity in the otherwise dry sauna.
A Swedish style home sauna is easy to build from a kit. You can choose to
build your dry heat sweat room from a
precut sauna kit or buy one of the easy-to-assemble
pre-built modular saunas that
can be put together within a few hours. You can customize your installation
by selecting the heater of your choice: Wood-fired, electric, gas, propane
or infrared.
The Finns and Swedes like to build their home saunas
near a lake so they can take a cool dip in the icy water. You may want to
build your dry heat home sauna in your backyard near the pool or portable
home spa (filled with cold water) so you can cool off in between sweating
sessions. Alternatively, you can build your sauna indoors in a corner of the
bathroom.
Regardless of your choice, you will find a kit suitable for your situation
so you can start enjoying your dry heat Swedish sauna and reap the benefits
that come with regular use.
